Joe Melvin
Vice President, Finance and Strategic Planning
Joe Melvin joined APT Pharmaceuticals in February 2008 as Director of Planning & Analysis, and now leads all finance activities for the company. He has 15 years of drug development and commercialization experience. While a management consultant with SDG (now part of IMS Health), Joe participated in or led some twenty strategy consulting engagements at more than a dozen pharmaceutical and biotech companies around the world. Clients sought his advice on pharmaceutical product forecasting and market assessment, drug development and commercialization strategy, and R&D resource allocation. Joe later joined Chiron Corporation as head of strategy & portfolio management for the company’s $600 million therapeutics business. After Chiron’s acquisition by Novartis, he was recruited by BD Biosciences to spearhead the global diagnostic maker’s expansion into “companion diagnostics”. Joe holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from MIT and a MBA from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business.
